[EN] More often people are advocating for a lifestyle in which the artisanal and the traditional abounds. The interest in maintining the customs of parents and grandparents began to prevail in the face of the daily rush as a way of life. Nowadays it is not a surprise to find people who opt for ecological products over industrial ones, for rural tourism instead of urban and even for a traditional gastronomy rather tan for the avant-garde one. Always referencing past times with the nostalgia of the quality of life that is desired today, even without belonging to those generations. The current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic has demostrated the dependance of the human being on the outside, among other things, in knowing how to carry out daily tasks autonomously. Some discovered these activities for the first time, becoming an odyssey for many, or new hobbies for others. Nowadays it is surprising that the ambition of new professions and great jobs blind the importance of traditional trades, making them practically obsolete. As a consequence of this, the reactivation of valencian traditions is proposed and both profesional and altruistic training in the activities related to them, such as sewing, combing, cultivating and cooking. Thus promoting their permanence in the city and creating a new center of activity and interest such as the Pinedos School of Trades.Pozo López, FJD. (2021).

As the number of security and privacy attacks continue to grow around the world, there is an ever increasing need to protect our personal devices. As a matter of fact, more and more manufactures are relying on Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) to shield their devices. In particular, ARM TrustZone (TZ) is being widely used in numerous embedded devices, especially smartphones, and this technology is the basis for secure solutions both in industry and academia. However, as shown in this paper, TEE is not bullet-proof and it has been successfully attacked numerous times and in very different ways. To raise awareness among potential stakeholders interested in this technology, this paper provides an extensive analysis and categorization of existing vulnerabilities in TEEs and highlights the design flaws that led to them. The presented vulnerabilities, which are not only extracted from existing literature but also from publicly available exploits and databases, are accompanied by some effective countermeasures to reduce the likelihood of new attacks. The paper ends with some appealing challenges and open issues.Funding for open access charge: Universidad de Málaga / CBUA This work has been partially supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation through the SecureEDGE project (PID2019-110565RB-I00), and by the by the Andalusian FEDER 2014–2020 Program through the SAVE project (PY18-3724)

Biphasic catalytic olefin epoxidation systems consisting of oxodiperoxomolybdenum catalysts in 1- n -alkyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ionic liquid (IL) media with aqueous hydrogen peroxide oxidant were optimised by tuning the molecular structure of the IL and employing N -heterocyclic donor base additives to inhibit hydrolysis and enhance the activity of the catalyst. The latter study was only made possible by the solubilising properties of the IL media. Of the bases investigated, pyrazoles were identified as the most efficient additive species and the best results were obtained using 3,5-dimethylpyrazole. Immobilisation of the catalyst in the IL allowed for very efficient catalyst recycling. Finally, the compound [MoO(O 2 ) 2 (3-Mepz) 2 ](3-Mepz = 3-methylpyrazole) was characterised and its structure determined by X-ray crystallography

A method to obtain the thermal parameters and the photothermal transduction efficiency in an optical hyperthermia device based on laser irradiation of gold nanoparticles

Optical hyperthermia systems based on the laser irradiation of gold nanorods seem to be a promising tool in the development of therapies against cancer. After a proof of concept in which the authors demonstrated the efficiency of this kind of systems, a modeling process based on an equivalent thermal-electric circuit has been carried out to determine the thermal parameters of the system and an energy balance obtained from the time-dependent heating and cooling temperature curves of the irradiated samples in order to obtain the photothermal transduction efficiency. By knowing this parameter, it is possible to increase the effectiveness of the treatments, thanks to the possibility of predicting the response of the device depending on the working configuration. As an example, the thermal behavior of two different kinds of nanoparticles is compared. The results show that, under identical conditions, the use of PEGylated gold nanorods allows for a more efficient heating compared with bare nanorods, and therefore, it results in a more effective therapy

Introduction: High blood pressure (HBP) is a health problem the prevalence of which has increased in young populations. Overweight and obesity in early ages have been directly related to its development. Due to the impact of HBP, it is necessary to provide tools that facilitate its early diagnosis, with useful anthropometric variables being those that assess obesity. The objective of this paper was to determine the diagnostic accuracy of anthropometric variables to detect HBP. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 265 students aged 6–16. The diagnosis of HBP was made following the criteria proposed by the Spanish Association of Pediatrics. Through different statistical methods, the association between anthropometric variables of general obesity with HBP was analyzed. Results: Waist circumference (WC) showed the best diagnostic capacity (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve = 0.729), with a sensitivity and specificity of 72.2% and 76%, respectively, for a cut-off point of 73.5 cm. In the adjusted multivariate analysis, an association was found between HBP and anthropometric variables: WC (odds ratio (OR) = 10.7), body mass index (OR = 7.5), waist-to-height ratio (OR = 5.5) and body fat percentage (OR = 5.3) (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The anthropometric variables studied showed a moderate predictive capacity for HBP, highlighting WC, which showed the strongest association with HBP in the infant and child population

Phenotypically heterogeneous loci in the plant pathogen Pseudomonas syringae.

Phenotypic heterogeneity usually refers to the co-existance of different phenotypes within a population. Phenotypic differences may arise through genetic variation (genomic rearrangements or mutations) or through the response to differences in the stimuli as encountered within the microenvironment. But also, sometimes, the sources of variation may not be deterministic, i.e. directly related to stimuli, but a consequence of molecular noise in gene expression and/or a programmed event under genetic or epigenetic control. A particular example of phenotypic heterogeneity is bistability. Bistability occurs when a bacterial clonal population splits into two subpopulations showing distinct phenotypes. Phenotypic heterogeneity can be beneficial in fluctuating environments by allowing some individuals within the clonal population to survive sudden changes (risk-spreading). It can also benefit the entire population through cooperation between individuals displaying phenotypic differences (division of labour). These processes and their biological relevance have been described in some animal pathogens, but little is known about them in plant-pathosystems. Pseudomonas syringae is a plant-pathogenic bacterium whose virulence depends on the expression of a type III secretion system (T3SS). Our team has previously reported that T3SS expression is bistable under inducing conditions, generating two subpopulations (T3SSON/T3SSOFF) that show differences in virulence. We have identified other loci including genes related to motility, biofilm formation and DNA methylation that also display phenotypic heterogeneity to very different degrees and with different dynamics and are at different stages on their molecular and biological characterization. Our latest advances on this front will be presented and discussed.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech

Efficiency at Rest: Magnetoencephalographic Resting-State Connectivity and Individual Differences in Verbal Working Memory

    Get PDF
Inter-individual differences in cognitive performance are based on an efficient use of task-related brain resources. However, little is known yet on how these differences might be reflected on resting-state brain networks. Here we used Magnetoencephalography resting-state recordings to assess the relationship between a behavioral measurement of verbal working memory and functional connectivity as measured through Mutual Information. We studied theta (4?8 Hz), low alpha (8?10 Hz), high alpha (10?13 Hz), low beta (13?18 Hz) and high beta (18?30 Hz) frequency bands. A higher verbal working memory capacity was associated with a lower mutual information in the low alpha band, prominently among right-anterior and left-lateral sensors. The results suggest that an efficient brain organization in the domain of verbal working memory might be related to a lower resting-state functional connectivity across large-scale brain networks possibly involving right prefrontal and left perisylvian areas
